Coen moving through the Svartrau market, representing the people and relationships affected by player choices

How Choices, Morality and Relationships Work

Choose by the story and relationships you want to preserve, not by searching for a universal “good” meter. The narrative sandbox makes actions, inaction, trust, and limited time part of the same decision.

01 / Before you begin

Check these assumptions first

  • 01Accept that the 30-day resource prevents one run from covering every story.
  • 02Treat characters as people with motives and secrets, not fixed good-or-evil labels.

02 / Decision steps

Work through the choice in this order

  1. 01

Decide what this version of Coen values

The game allows rescuing the family, pursuing revenge, or weaving another route from available stories. Use that intention to judge which time costs and relationships deserve priority.

  2. 02

    Look for context before choosing

Official material describes morality in shades of gray. Learn what a character wants, what a community fears, and what a promise would cost before reducing a choice to its immediate reward.

  3. 03

    Treat relationships as route access

Trust, influence, and choice can strengthen bonds, test them, reveal hidden truths, and open new paths. Not everyone begins as an enemy, and not every friend is guaranteed to remain one.

  4. 04

Let the first run stay incomplete

Time and mutually exclusive consequences are part of the design. Finish a coherent story first, then use another playthrough to explore people, alliances, and outcomes you left behind.

03 / Common pitfalls

Do not let a false assumption choose for you

Assuming every choice feeds a visible good-or-evil score.

Treating every vrakhiri as an enemy who must die.

Spending scarce story time only to clear markers without considering relationships.

Trying to reveal every secret and achievement in a single playthrough.
